Arc Park opened in June 2017 after several years of planning and fundraising. The park is a collaboration between Arc Herkimer and the Village of Herkimer, and is located directly behind the Arc Herkimer Business Park at 420 East German Street in Herkimer. The park operates from dawn until dusk and is free and open to the public. Arc Park meets a regional need for a public park that serves children and adults with disabilities who previously had no access to traditional playgrounds. It serves tens of thousands of people of all ages and abilities. The park features age-appropriate playground areas: ages 6 to 24 months, 2 to 5 years, and 5 to 12 years. Additionally, there is a baseball field, basketball court, pool, fitness trail that includes five exercise stations, a concession stand, family pavilion, and bandstand.
Arc Herkimer utilized a $394,000 grant from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation; more than $200,000 through The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc.; and $100,000 secured with assistance from State Senator James Seward, R-Milford, in order to build the park. Additionally, private donors and donations from Arc Herkimer staff helped to raise the funds needed to open the park. Arc Herkimer continues to raise money for the park and for ongoing maintenance of the facility and for special projects.
