Park Opened June 2017
Accolades keep pouring in for the new Arc PARK, which opened in grand fashion on June 17, 2017 after several years of planning and fundraising.
Hundreds of people joined in the celebration and events that included a 5K and free children’s runs, awareness walk, opening ceremony, book signing by national best-selling author Rachel Simon, demonstrations by the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs and Sitrin Stars, a magician, music by Fritz’s Polka Band, a Boneyard BBQ, and more!
Arc PARK, a collaboration between Arc Herkimer and the Village of Herkimer, is located directly behind the Arc Herkimer Business Park at 420 East German Street in Herkimer. The park operates from dawn until dusk and is free and open to the public. The family pavilion and bandstand can be rented for a nominal fee for maintenance purposes. Those interested in reservations should call (315) 574-7530.
Arc PARK meets a regional need for a public park that serves children and adults with disabilities who previously had no access to traditional playgrounds. It will serve tens of thousands of people of all ages and abilities. The park features age-appropriate playground areas: ages 6 to 24 months, 2 to 5 years, and 5 to 12 years. Additionally, there is a baseball field, basketball court, and fitness trail that includes five exercise stations, a concession stand, family pavilion, and bandstand.
Arc Herkimer utilized a $394,000 grant from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation; more than $200,000 through The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc.; and $100,000 secured with assistance from State Senator James Seward, R-Milford. Additionally, private donors and donations from Arc Herkimer staff helped to raise funds to open the park.
To date, Arc Herkimer has raised approximately $1.2 million toward the $1.5 million needed for the project. Arc Herkimer continues to raise money for the park and for ongoing maintenance of the facility.
